Josh and Amanda, I am truly enjoying your journal! ^You guys are doing great, and I admire your hardiness amidst the inevitable challenges. You're making nice, steady mileage...and seems like you are taking some time to enjoy your journey.

I am thinking about setting up a journal similar to yours, because it is the best I've seen. So I have a few questions:
(1) What app is it written with, and is it appropriate for a beginner?
(2) How did you make the Google map, which is totally cool?
(3) Who hosts it, and does it cost extra to post the photos?
Your reply would be most appreciated.

I have one year and 2 months until my bride and I retire. We will be walking the trail at the ages of 66 and 63. We walk miles everyday and are very fit. We are going on a 184 mile hike in early May and hope to complete it in 10 days.

I have been interested in the bushbuddy stove. Have you been using it? Is it a problem in the wet environment of the trail?

Hi Girls. Hope you all are enjoying the break at Smith Mt Lake! We decided to head into Daleville for a few nights afterall. The rocks over the past 2 weeks have been a bit brutal on the feet, lower legs and knees, so given our advanced age we decided on a nero and zero day! If you need a break in Daleville, you are correct, Comfort Inn is a good place with a decent rate ($39 plus tax) and continental breakfast. There is a Dollar General right across the street for resupply if you do not want to head to Kroger which is in the opposite direction. Not sure if we told you but the other day Brakeman had his first Skull Crusher. A term we coined for the event where one is not looking where one is hiking and has a mid air colision with a tree leaning over the trail! BANG and OUCH. He wobbled around in a small circle for a few minutes trying to regain his balance (what little he has) while Grasshopper did her best to supress the giggles until it was known if he was ok. Luckily no duct tape was needed to piece his skull back together! Good thing, as we are running low on duct tape and would not want to use it needlessly! Hope to see you soon on the trail. Left a few messages for your in the trail registers (not the shelter ones...the ones by the trail information boards that someone surely reads, but I\'m not sure who). But I do confess to reading one. It was really helpful. It talked about how horses have died on this trail and is your horse prepared? I wonder why they did not have a similar one for humans. Perhpas in that area, horses are worth more than a lowly human. BY THE WAY...THANKS FOR THE TRAIL MAGIC! And just remember, every step that you take and DO NOT trip or fall, is because B&G are clearing that trail for you girls! Stretch those feet and get back on the trail soon healthy!

You 2 are doing a great job. I really enjoy reading your journal. Amanda, I understand that you have been having some issues with relieving yourself and get your boots weeeeet. I have spoken with my friends, Mark and Kathy Stanley, from West Virginia. Mark said "Amanda needs a GRUNT rope". I bought the supplies and Mark did the assembly. I have instructed your Mother on how it is to be used, but just in case she forgets, I will explain how to use it.

1. Put the rope around a small tree or post and hook it through the buckle.

2. Grap the rope and start backing up.

3. Your backside should be down hill.

4. Put your hand through the loop and lean back and do your business.

Caution!! Make sure your boots are out of the way.

Josh & Amanda,
We are all hoping this finds you warm(er) and well. The weather will break soon and temperatures will become more bearable. That part of the trail has a more dramatic rise & fall temp.wise, but keep your spirits up! We are enjoying the journal & my fifth graders are so excited to be sending their cards & goodies with Amanda's mom & dad. Wishing you safe travels...more after spring break!!!

We're really enjoying your journal entries. They seem to say more thsn most.
Since circumstances don't usually allow such ambitious enterprises too often in life...hopefully you'll take the time to enjoy the journey...after all, its ''being out there'' that's most important and what makes for the best old Dude talking ! ! ! ! !
