There is a part of me, the anxious parent part, that wishes I had never bought a pack, had never shown you the splendor of the Smokies, or the beauty of Mt. Ranier and maybe you would still be behind a computer in Chapel Hill, accessible, easily reachable and ready to play Ghost Recon against me. BUT THEN there is the larger part of me eaten up with envy and swelling with pride for what you have attempted and what I know the two of you will together accomplish and all the beauty and splendor, from both people and places, you will witness along the way. You two are "making memories in the mountains" just like I did years ago with you son. Please be safe Josh; keep Amanda safe. Love you two very much. Sincerely;
Your anxious DAD

Hi Josh and Amanda,
Met you guys up at the Springer Mt Shelter Sunday night (2/17/2008). Spoke with you guys a little bit. I truly hope you have a great hike up to Maine. I honestly didn't want to head back south Monday morning however, work beckoned. I look forward to keeping up with your journals and tracking your progress. Let me know if I can help you guys out where I can.
Semper Fi and Happy Trails,
Fellow White Blazer and Thru Hiker sending you good vibes. Love the site. My wife and I thru hiked in 07 and I couldn't have been happier having her as a partner. You guys are going to have a blast!!
I met you on whiteblaze; I'm the one with the AT blog you found. I'll be more than a month behind you guys, leaving April 1. Wish I could get on the trail sooner! Good luck to you and I look forward to following along.

Hi Josh and Amanda!
It's a little different coming to this website as a normal user rather than a technical consultant. The site looks great... especially the parts that I had nothing to do with!
Hope your first few days of hiking have been fun. Em and I will definitely come out and join you for a stretch or two. I should have plenty of time to do that. I figure that if Josh isn't going into the lab for 6 months, then I don't need to either!
